Jimmy Glass is a jazz club on Calle Baja, in the heart of El Carmen, and has been one of the fixed points of Valencia's music life since it opened in 1991; in October 2026 it celebrates its 35th anniversary. In 2018 the American magazine DownBeat included it in its international list of great jazz clubs, a recognition that matches its reputation among musicians and listeners alike.
The room is long, narrow and dimly lit, with jazz photographs on the walls and an audience sitting very close to the band, which is exactly the point. With space for around 50 people, it is the opposite of a concert hall: you hear every detail of the drummer's brushes. The bar serves beer, wine, cocktails and soft drinks, and there is a short food menu where the cocas are a reliable choice.
Programming focuses on jazz that does not chase trends: national, European and international artists, established names and emerging bands, alongside Valencian musicians. Over the years the stage has hosted figures such as Benny Golson, Kenny Garrett, Lee Konitz, Lou Donaldson and Pat Martino, and players like Melissa Aldana and Linda Oh performed here early in their careers before becoming international names. A typical month mixes visiting American and European quartets with local trios and quintets. The club also runs its own contemporary jazz festival, which reached its fifteenth edition in 2026, as well as spring and summer concert cycles, and has an association for its regulars.
The audience is made up of listeners rather than partygoers: jazz fans of all ages, musicians and curious visitors who want to hear the real thing in a small room. Dress is casual and the minimum age is 18. Ticket prices usually range from 5 to 15 euros depending on the band, and the club publishes its programme with dates and artists on its own calendar.
Jimmy Glass usually opens from Tuesday to Saturday from 21:00, until around 01:00 during the week and 02:00 on Fridays and Saturdays. Because the room is so small, it is worth booking or arriving early when a well-known artist is on. Afterwards, the bars of El Carmen are right outside the door, and Plaza del Tossal, the Torres de Serranos and the rest of the old town are only a few minutes away on foot.
