Café Balli

Café Balli is an all-day café and bar on Calle Almirante Cadarso, in the Cánovas part of the Eixample, one of the streets that make up the neighbourhood's busy cluster of bars and pubs. It belongs to Grupo Balli, a local hospitality group, and runs on a simple idea that suits the area well: coffee and breakfast in the morning, something light at lunchtime, and cocktails and drinks that carry on into the early hours.

The space combines an indoor bar with a terrace that is especially popular in the warmer months, when it becomes a meeting point for an after-work drink or a long afternoon. Inside, the feel is that of a modern pub with a relaxed, welcoming tone. As the evening goes on the music gets louder, and while some people end up dancing, others stay at their tables and talk. It is less a nightclub than a lively bar where the night can start, or where it can happen entirely.

Musically it stays in commercial territory: pop hits, Spanish and Latin favourites and the kind of upbeat playlist that fits the tardeo, the Valencian habit of an afternoon drink that slowly turns into a night out. There are no specialist DJ series to plan around; the appeal is the atmosphere and the fact that it is open every day, including early in the week, when many other places are closed.

The crowd is a mix of neighbourhood regulars and visitors who want to see how Valencians go out, and it covers a wide age range, from people in their twenties to older locals who have been coming for years. There is no strict dress code, although neat casual clothes fit the Cánovas setting. In the evening the minimum age is 18.

It opens in the morning and usually stays open until around three or four at night, with slightly later opening times at weekends. There are no tickets to buy in advance: it works as a regular bar, and terrace tables can be requested by phone or WhatsApp. Drink prices are those of a standard bar in the area, roughly 3 to 10 euros. Late afternoon is the calmest time; after about eleven the volume and the energy go up. Other Cánovas bars are just a few steps away, and Ruzafa is within walking distance if you want to move on.
