About

Azúcar, which the venue itself spells Asúcar, is a dance hall devoted to salsa, bachata, kizomba and other Latin rhythms on Calle Beato Nicolás Factor, south of the city centre. It is not a bar where Latin music just happens to be playing: people come here specifically to dance in couples, and the same team runs a dance school with classes during the week, so the floor is full of people who actually know the steps.

The venue is compact and intimate rather than a big club, with wooden dance floors that dancers appreciate. Visitors describe two rooms with different atmospheres, so one can focus on salsa while the other leans towards bachata or kizomba, and the second room tends to open later in the night. The air conditioning and fans run hard to keep the floor comfortable, which is why some regulars bring an extra layer for the breaks between songs.

Resident DJs play salsa, bachata, kizomba and a wider range of Latin classics. The weekend usually starts with a Thursday party, and the programme also includes salsa and bachata night sessions and themed bachata nights. Classes cover all levels, from complete beginners to improvers, using the school's own teaching method, and on some nights a short class before the social dancing helps newcomers get onto the floor.

The crowd is Valencia's social dance community: students from the school, experienced dancers who come several nights a week and people who have just finished a course and want to practise. It is a friendly, mixed-age environment where asking someone to dance is completely normal. Dress is casual; what matters most is comfortable shoes that turn easily. The minimum age is 18.

Thursdays are usually more relaxed and Fridays busier; the floor tends to fill up from around midnight, so arriving between 23:30 and 00:00 works well. Entry is paid at the door and, according to recent visitors, includes drink tickets; prices generally sit in the 5 to 12 euro range depending on the night. The venue offers VIP lists for discounted entry and a booking page for reservations, both promoted through its social channels. Opening days can change with the season and with special events, so check the latest programme before heading out. Late at night, a taxi is the easiest way to get there and back.
