Xtra Club

Xtra Club, better known by its brand XL Xtra Lrge and sometimes billed as XL Xtra Lrge Playground, is a pub and club at Gran Vía de las Germanías 21, on the edge of Ruzafa. Being on the Gran Vía rather than in the tighter streets of the neighbourhood, it is easy to find, and it works as a convenient stop between dinner in Ruzafa and the rest of the night.

The venue has several rooms and presents itself as more than a standard club: a space where electronic music meets art and urban culture, with rooms that have also been used for exhibitions and live concerts. With room for around 600 people, it is big enough for a proper party but not so large that it feels empty early in the night.

The music does not stick to one genre, which is part of why the place is so accessible. DJ sets range from techno to upbeat house, with commercial and reggaeton slots depending on the night. A large part of the current programme is the tardeo, the Spanish habit of starting the party in the afternoon: Tardeo Club, Tardeo XL and PLAYGROUND Tardeo Club sessions run alongside free-entry DJ nights with local names such as DJ Amable, Halfanhour, Juanca Supersub and showcases by local DJ collectives. The XL brand has also taken its 2000s-themed tardeos to other venues in the city.

The crowd is mixed and international, with Ruzafa locals, students and visitors who want a relaxed night without a big ticket price. Entry is 18 and over. The dress level is smart casual; there is no strict dress code, but a tidy look is the safe choice at the door.

Many events are free to enter, especially if you are on the guest list or arrive early, and paid nights generally sit in the €10–€18 range depending on the line-up. Guest lists and tickets for specific events are handled online, so check the event pages before you go. Opening days are concentrated from Thursday to Saturday, with tardeo sessions starting in the afternoon or early evening and night sessions running late; closing times vary by event.
