MADRE is a restaurant, cocktail bar and club at number 227 on Calle Eugenia Viñes, at the Cabanyal and Malvarrosa end of Valencia's beachfront, a short walk from the sand. It belongs to the newer generation of beach-area venues that work all day long: lunch and dinner, cocktails in the evening and a club atmosphere later on, all under one roof.
The look is colourful, with bright walls, tiled details and an interior that opens onto a patio where, as the venue itself puts it, the street becomes part of the space. Music spills out of the windows from early evening. The kitchen describes itself as having a Latin accent and a Mediterranean heart, with dishes to share and some international touches, and the cocktail list follows the same idea of Latin flavour with a Mediterranean spirit.
The programme is what makes MADRE interesting for a night out. As the evening goes on it becomes MADRE Club, with DJs, live music and themed nights. Recurring names include the Tardeo Tropical afternoon sessions, Asalto Caribeño and Desmadre Club at weekends, La Groovería on Fridays, a Thursday social club night devoted to cumbia, and a Sunday language exchange combined with live music improvisation. Latin, Caribbean and party hits dominate, with occasional guest DJs.
The crowd is relaxed and mixed: neighbours from Cabanyal and Malvarrosa, international residents (the language exchange brings in many of them) and groups who come for dinner and end up staying to dance. Dress is casual, and the atmosphere is more neighbourhood party than velvet rope. Minimum age for the club nights is 18. Prices vary by night and event, and ticketed sessions show their price on the event page.
According to the venue, it opens Monday to Thursday from 18:00 to 1:30, Friday and Saturday from 12:00 to 3:30, and Sunday from 12:00 to 1:30, so it closes earlier than the big clubs and works well as a first stop or as a full evening in itself. Tables for lunch or dinner are booked online through the venue's reservation system, while club nights and tardeos are ticketed through Xceed, sometimes with free guest lists. Metro lines 4, 6 and 8 and several bus routes reach this stretch of the coast. Carry on along Eugenia Viñes towards the beach clubs, or head back into Cabanyal for its bars. Upcoming nights are listed on this page.
