Jerusalem Club

Jerusalem Club occupies one of the most interesting buildings in Valencia's nightlife: the former Cine Jerusalem on Calle Convento de Jerusalén, number 55, in the Extramurs district, a short walk from Estació del Nord and Xàtiva metro station. The cinema opened in 1928, still in the silent-film era, and was designed by architect Salvador Donderis in Art Deco style. It closed as a cinema in the 1980s, and since the early 1990s the building has hosted nightclubs under different names, including Gran Caimán, before becoming Jerusalem Club.

Much of the original structure survives, and the interior mixes an industrial look with details of the old theatre. The venue covers around 720 square metres, with a main floor for about 180 people and an upper level for around 90. The sound system uses Lynx Pro Audio speakers, which matters because the room works as much as a concert hall as a club.

The programme is varied. Through the season Jerusalem hosts concerts by Spanish and international artists across indie, rock, pop, metal and darker electronic styles, with recent and upcoming names such as Pedro Pastor, Balkan Paradise Orchestra, Clan of Xymox, MONO, Tierra Santa and Paula Koops. On club nights the room turns into a dance floor with DJ sessions that range from techno and house to indie parties and nights built around hits from the 80s, 90s and 2000s. It also hosts showcases, album presentations and themed events.

The crowd changes with the programme: rock and indie audiences for concerts, and a mixed local crowd, mostly in their twenties and thirties, on party nights. The dress code is relaxed and casual clothes are fine. Entry is for over-18s. Concert tickets usually cost from around 12 euros up to about 50 euros depending on the artist and are sold through several ticketing platforms, while club nights are cheaper, generally between 8 and 15 euros.

Practical tips: Jerusalem usually opens from Thursday to Sunday, with club sessions starting around midnight and lasting until the early morning. On concert days doors open earlier in the evening, so check the time printed on your ticket. The location is very central, between the train station, Ruzafa and the city centre, which makes it easy to arrive on foot and to combine with dinner nearby.
