HAVANA

HAVANA is a Caribbean-themed nightclub at Plaza Cánovas del Castillo, number 6, right on the square that gives the Cánovas nightlife area its name, in Valencia's Eixample district. Cánovas is the city's classic zone for a dressed-up night out, with cocktail bars, pubs and clubs packed into a few streets, and HAVANA is one of its busiest weekend addresses. It belongs to Cosmic Group, the Valencia hospitality company that also runs venues such as Indiana, Tulum, Bandido, Malabar and Maison Lupin.

The concept is a tropical, Caribbean-inspired club with exotic cocktails and a party atmosphere built for dancing. The music is Latin and commercial: reggaeton, salsa and bachata mixed with current hits and the Spanish and international songs everyone knows. The club has room for around 600 people, and VIP tables can be reserved in advance for groups, birthdays and other celebrations.

The weekly rhythm is easy to read from the calendar. Friday and Saturday, simply called Viernes Noche and Sábado Noche, are the main sessions, running from shortly after midnight until six or seven in the morning. On top of that come themed nights such as Una Noche en Puerto Rico, back-to-back collaborations with other clubs such as Casablanca, and Los Jueves de Havana with ESN, the Erasmus Student Network, which brings a large international student crowd on Thursdays. On some dates the club also opens for afternoon tardeo sessions.

The crowd is young and mixed: Valencian groups of friends, university students, Erasmus students on Thursdays and visitors staying in the centre. Entry is for over-18s, and a few special nights set a higher minimum age, so check the event details. Door staff usually expect people to dress up, so smart clothes and proper shoes are the safe choice. Prices vary by night, usually between 12 and 20 euros, and buying tickets online in advance saves time at the door.

Practical tips: Cánovas gets busy after midnight, so many people start with dinner or drinks in the surrounding streets, such as Calle Conde de Altea or Calle Almirante Cadarso, and arrive at HAVANA around one in the morning.
