Barraca

Barraca is one of the founding clubs of Valencian nightlife and one of the few venues from the era of the Ruta del Bakalao that is still open. It is not in the city itself but on the coast to the south, on Avenida San Roc in Les Palmeres, part of the municipality of Sueca, in the Albufera area. Opened in 1965, it reached its peak in the 1980s, when its eclectic mix of new wave, pop and early electronic music, known locally as música barraquera, helped spark the whole Ruta movement.

Today Barraca is a serious techno club. Line-ups move between techno, hard techno and house, with regular local names such as Domen, Lucas Cabello and Sou Allen alongside international guests: in June 2026 Ben Klock headlined its Noche de San Juan party, and over the years artists such as Ricardo Villalobos, Loco Dice, Marco Carola, Ellen Allien and Oscar Mulero have played there. Recurring formats on the calendar include Barraca pres. Música Infinita, TECHNOLOGY, Vértigo x Barraca and a joint night with theBasement, plus big dates such as Halloween.

The building is large, with four rooms, an outdoor area and room for around 1,500 people, so a big night feels closer to a small festival than a city club. The club has also launched its own school, Barraca Music Academy, with DJ and music production courses taught by its residents, a sign that it wants to keep the scene moving rather than live off its past.

The crowd is mostly from Valencia and the surrounding region, mixing veterans who remember the Ruta years with a younger generation of techno fans and a growing number of international visitors. Entry is strictly for over-18s. There is no strict dress code, but the door usually expects a neat look, so smart and comfortable is the sensible choice. Prices depend on the line-up, usually around 15 to 20 euros, and tickets for most nights are sold online in advance through platforms such as Xceed and Resident Advisor.

Practical tips: Barraca opens on Friday and Saturday nights and on special dates, from around midnight until six or later. Transport is the main thing to plan. Les Palmeres is roughly 30 to 40 minutes by car from central Valencia, there is no metro, and taxis at closing time can be scarce, so most people go by car with a sober driver, share a taxi or book transport in advance.
